Great question! The function you gave me, f(x) = x³ - 6x² + 9x, is a third-degree polynomial function. To find "the result", we need a value for 'x'.

Think of it like a machine. You put a number in place of 'x' and the machine gives you a result.

For example, if we want to know the value of the function when x = 2, we replace every 'x' with 2:

f(2) = (2)³ - 6(2)² + 9(2) f(2) = 8 - 6(4) + 18 f(2) = 8 - 24 + 18 f(2) = 2
